BASIC LIFE SUPPORT/CPR
WHAT WE DO
The AED Basic Life Support Program at UCLA, founded by alumnus Takashi Hirase in 2012, is an organization at UCLA that specializes in instructing Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association. Our lead instructors are dedicated to providing quality education on how to take action in an emergency situation.
Our curriculum consists of: adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), rescue breathing, choking relief, advanced airway, and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). In class, you will be faced with scenarios and hands-on demonstrations to ensure that you leave class prepared to save a life.
The profits that we raise through your participation in our program are used to fund our sister program Project CARE, which hosts community outreach and health education events.

OUR CLASSES
WHY ENROLL?
This specific American Heart Association (AHA) license is required to participate in many healthcare-related volunteer opportunities and occupations. This is the standard certification that every healthcare provider must have, whether you are a volunteer at a hospital, a nurse, or an EMT. Many graduate programs, like physical therapy, dental, and nursing schools, require all students to have an updated BLS Provider card. However, this license is not just limited to the health field: volunteer opportunities such as summer camps, churches, and lifeguarding require this certifiable skill. In addition, many of our enrollees are pre-health UCLA students eager to simply learn more about emergency medicine and gain skills that may potentially save someone’s life.
We are offering BLS certification classes every Saturday at the UCLA Kerckhoff Hall (308 Westwood Plaza, Los Angeles, CA 90095). We will be equipped with COVID protocols to ensure the safety of both the instructors and students.
